The Department of the UNM is a scientific division of the Pedagogical Institute. Professors, scientists, and masters of Science work at the department.
The department offers the following educational programs: Bachelor's degree - 6B01504 Chemistry, 6B01505 Biology, 6B01506Geography. In 2019, a license was obtained to carry out educational activities in the direction 7M015 – training of teachers in natural science subjects and now the department is preparing for the following subjects: 7M01501BIOLOGY,7M01503 Chemistry, 7M01505 Geography.
Since 2012, for the first time, the department has opened the first multilingual groups in Biology, since 2014 Chemistry, Geography. The training is conducted in 3 languages: Kazakh, Russian and English. There is an academic mobility program for students and teachers (Norway, Slovakia, Poland, France).
Since 2011, the educational programs of the department have been participating in national and international rankings and occupy leading places among educational programs of pedagogical institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2020, 2022, the educational program "Geography" took 1st place, "Chemistry" 2nd place according to the rating of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Atameken".
The Department of the UNM has repeatedly held a republican competition of scientific research works on the OP "Biology". Students of educational programs participate in republican subject Olympiads, where they take prizes in Chemistry, Biology, Geography.
2024, G.K. Baubekova, S. A. Daribayeva, and C.A. Tauakelov received a grant for a scientific internship within the framework of the Bolashak Project 500 Scientists program. The faculty of the department actively participates in the implementation of national and international scientific projects: Konysbaeva D.T., Bragina T.M., Bragin E.A., Perezhogin Yu.V., Borodulina O.V., Ruleva M.M., Bobrenko M.A., Chernyavskaya O.M., Chashkov V.N., Kurlov S.I., Baymaganbetova K.T. and others.

Since 2021, a two-degree program on the cipher "7M01501-Biology" has been developed from GSTU (Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Russia).
Teaching staff of the department annually organize and conduct methodological seminars and conferences at various levels. Round tables. ("Teaching natural science disciplines within the framework of three-language training", etc., scientific seminars "Innovations in the field of developing techniques for sustainable agricultural environmental management in a changing climate in the dry steppes of Kazakhstan and southwestern Siberia (ReKKS)", "Studying the biodiversity of the Kostanay region for 2015 - 2016".
The department actively cooperates with international scientists within the framework of the internationalization program: E. Todorova (Bulgaria), E. Atasa (Turkey), T. Katzner (USA), S. Solovyov (Russia). Also, scientists of the department have prepared a number of monographs, one of which is: Bragina E.A. (Birds of the Naurzum Reserve), Bragina T.M. Experimental tours of the city, regional and republican (2011) Chemistry Olympiads among students of grades 8-11 are held annually on the basis of the laboratories of the department.
