The Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, and Special Education was reorganized in September 2023 and is a structural unit of the Pedagogical Institute named after U. Sultangazin of the Kostanay Regional University named after A. Baitursynuly.

The department's goal is to improve the quality of educational services, ensure the professional training of future teachers based on advanced education standards in accordance with the Graduate Profile Model.

Currently, the department prepares graduates in bachelor's programs 6B01902-Special Education, 6B01101-Pedagogy and Psychology, and master's program 7M01101-Pedagogy and Psychology.

The department performs educational and scientific-methodical functions and also provides psychological and pedagogical support for a number of innovative processes in the university. The scientific and methodical potential of the department allows achieving positive results and prospects for self-improvement.

The scientific and methodical theme of the department is "Formats and technologies of psychological and pedagogical support for subjects of the educational process in modern schools," which is reflected in the individual work plans of the teaching staff of the department. The department's staff enables productive solutions to tasks in the main directions of the pedagogical institute's activities.

Teachers actively participate in all initiatives related to the transformation of the 12-year education system in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the implementation of the "Ruhani Zhangyru" program - "100 New Books," closely collaborating with the branch "Center for Pedagogical Excellence" of NIS AEO, the Education Department of the region, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, and Special Education maintains creative ties with a number of regional, republican, and Russian scientific institutions and universities: Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Moscow State University named after M. Lomonosov, South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk), South Ural State Humanitarian-Pedagogical University (Chelyabinsk), Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, State Humanities and Technological University (Moscow region), Dubcek University of Trencin (Slovakia).

As part of professional development, faculty members of the Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, and Special Education undergo training both within the country and abroad. Teachers enhance their qualifications by attending seminars conducted by invited scholars from abroad and other organizations. The department's staff continues to work on preparing and publishing articles in journals with a high impact factor.

The department operates scientific problem groups, annually holds the international scientific-practical conference "Altynsarin Readings," with the participation of practical teachers and teacher-psychologists, social workers. Every year, students and master's students participate in republican subject Olympiads in the field of psychology and pedagogy. A scientific student conference "Pedagogy and Psychology: the view of student youth" is organized specifically for students majoring in 6B011-Pedagogical Sciences.

To ensure the integration of education, science, and industry for conducting practical classes, workshops, and guidance for pedagogical and industrial practice, experienced specialists working in the system of special general educational organizations and institutions of the city of Kostanay and the Kostanay region are involved in the department.

The material support of the department allows conducting scientific and methodological work at a high level. Students and master's students have specially equipped classrooms and laboratories at their disposal:

  • Pedagogy Methodological Classroom named after Y. Altynsarin and Computer-Pedagogical Methodological Classroom for Psychology, where modern specialized literature is collected with a library fund of more than three thousand copies of educational and scientific-methodical literature and scientific periodicals;

  • Laboratory of Computer Psycho-Pedagogical Diagnostics is equipped with special equipment contributing to the formation of necessary research and practical skills, computer diagnostic programs;

  • T Practical Psychology and Pedagogy Room is intended for conducting sessions of individual socio-pedagogical and psychological counseling, psychotherapy, psycho-pedagogical correction, as well as psycho-prophylactic sessions, the equipment allows using a method of comprehensive audiovisual stimulation;

  • Sensory-Dynamic Development Laboratory - represents a developing space, saturated with various elements of auditory, visual, tactile, and dynamic nature.

    The laboratory base is used to improve the psychological practice of future teacher-psychologists in psychotherapy, social adaptation, and sensory integration of children and adolescents.

    The laboratory includes a relaxation sensory room, psycho-emotional relief, which allows students to master psychological techniques for overcoming fears, correcting neurotic conditions and behaviors, recovery after active classes, transitioning from activity to calmness, switching between blocks of activities.The laboratory's activity is aimed at scientific and methodological support of the educational process of students, master's students of the educational program "Pedagogy and Psychology".

  • The Art Therapy Room is designed for both independent work of group participants and their interaction, at the stage of discussing products of art activities. The Laboratory of Special and Inclusive Education is equipped for conducting educational and research activities of students of the educational program "Special Pedagogy". The main task of the laboratory is to develop professional and research competencies in future special educators using IT technologies, and it is also practice-oriented and has a pronounced applied character.

  • The laboratory is equipped with specialized equipment, which will allow future special educators to master professional skills in working with various categories of persons with disabilities in the conditions of inclusion and in special institutions. Specialized equipment includes various educational software: the educational system "EduQuest," the didactic system "Numicon," and specialized speech therapy equipment. 

The presented laboratories are included in the activities of the Center for Pedagogical Innovations and solve the tasks of organizing practice-oriented training of special educators and teacher-psychologists.

The Department actively operates the Volunteer Club "Good Heart" - this is a large team of volunteers from among the students of the 1st-3rd courses. The main direction of the club's work is practice-oriented and directly related to the future profession, which has great practical significance.
